Carnival Queen and her court, Carnival Week, 1915
Beginning in 1915 Hampton Beach held an annual Carnival Week in early September. A Queen, and sometimes a King, were selected by various means to preside over Carnival Week activities. For some time the queen was the young woman who sold the most raffle tickets, but the event became a beauty contest in 1946, the precursor of today's Miss Hampton Beach contest. In 1915 the Queen was Blanche Thompson and Arthur Ford was her King.
